Koleje Mazowieckie has placed an order for up to 50 advanced FLIRT electric multiple unit (EMU) trains from Stadler, aimed at enhancing travel in the Masovia region. The framework agreement, worth approximately EUR 750 million and co-financed by EU funds, includes maintenance and signifies the continuation of a strong partnership between the two companies. The initial two executive contracts, signed alongside the framework agreement, cover the construction of 25 units, with deliveries expected within 24 months. The total framework includes four executive agreements for 14, 11, 14, and 11 units respectively, with maintenance covered for 18 years.
The partnership between Koleje Mazowieckie and Stadler began in 2006, resulting in the establishment of a production facility in Siedlce, Poland. Since then, Stadler has delivered 71 FLIRT units to Koleje Mazowieckie, with the latest agreement following a previous framework signed in 2018, under which 61 FLIRT trains were delivered between 2020 and 2023. This new order will see an additional 50 five-car FLIRT vehicles integrated into the fleet, aimed at enhancing the comfort and safety of regional travel.
The new FLIRT trains feature lightweight aluminium structures, low energy consumption, and compliance with ETCS Level 2 and TSI standards. They are designed with accessibility in mind, offering spacious entrance areas, high proportions of low-floor configurations, and facilities for wheelchairs, bicycles, and strollers. Modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, defibrillators, and intercoms are also included. Each five-car unit can accommodate 600 passengers, with 279 seats, and reach speeds up to 160 km/h, improving the overall travel experience for passengers.
Hitachi Rail has had a presence in Denmark for over 30 years, thanks to a longstanding partnership with the Copenhagen Metro. On May 31, 2024, Hitachi Rail expanded its presence in Denmark by acquiring Thales' Ground Transportation Systems business for €1.7 billion. This acquisition strengthens its collaboration with BaneDanmark, especially in implementing ERTMS digital signalling technology on Denmark’s mainline network, further demonstrating Hitachi Rail's commitment to advancing the country’s transportation infrastructure.
