Siemens Mobility and Tyczka Hydrogen, in collaboration with Smart Train Lease, are spearheading the transformation of the railway sector towards hydrogen mobility. This partnership aims to provide comprehensive end-to-end solutions for fuel cell trains, facilitating a significant shift from fossil diesel to renewable fuels. The integrated approach ensures that train operators not only receive hydrogen-powered trains and corresponding maintenance services but also benefit from a complete green hydrogen supply chain. This includes hydrogen production, storage, distribution, refueling, and the leasing of hydrogen trains through Smart Train Lease, a Siemens Mobility subsidiary.

Hydrogen technology is crucial for decarbonizing the railway sector, particularly on routes that are challenging to electrify. Siemens Mobility and Tyczka Hydrogen have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) in April 2024, marking the beginning of their cooperation to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered railway mobility. This collaboration aims to deliver solutions across the entire supply chain, ensuring a seamless transition to fossil-free mobility for train operators. The partnership highlights the commitment of both companies to drive sustainable practices and reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector.

Albrecht Neumann, CEO Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, emphasized the ease of delivering carbon-neutral mobility through this collaboration. He noted that with Siemens Mobility, Smart Train Lease, and Tyczka working together, the hydrogen rail market can be served with innovative concepts such as train leasing and comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure and supply. This partnership is set to revolutionize the rail industry by providing operators with the tools and resources needed to adopt hydrogen technology efficiently and effectively.

Thomas Zorn, Managing Director of Tyczka Hydrogen, highlighted the benefits of green hydrogen fuel for decarbonizing heavy-duty transport operations. He pointed out that hydrogen trains offer fast refueling times and long driving ranges, allowing for environmentally friendly operations without the need for extensive electrification investments. Benjamin Dobernecker, CEO of Smart Train Lease GmbH, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of simplifying hydrogen infrastructure solutions for customers. Together, these three partners are paving the way for a successful transition to hydrogen mobility in the railway sector.
