The annual "Rail Business Days" trade fair and conference has commenced in Ostrava, Czechia, showcasing the latest advancements in the railway industry, infrastructure, and logistics. Among the highlights is Stadler's presentation of the FLIRT electrical-multiple-unit train designed for Serbian Railways. This model, part of an order for 18 vehicles, aims to enhance regional transport capabilities across Serbia while demonstrating cutting-edge technology and comfort for passengers.
In late 2021, Serbian Railways and Stadler finalized an agreement for the delivery of these FLIRT trains, marking the third collaboration between the two entities following previous successful contracts. The introduction of these trains is expected to build upon the positive reception received by earlier Stadler models in Serbia, known for their reliability and passenger comfort. Manufactured at Stadler's facility in Siedlce, Poland, and designed by engineers in Prague, Czech Republic, these vehicles are set to significantly augment the existing fleet operated by Serbian Railways.
Currently, eight out of the 18 ordered FLIRT vehicles have already been delivered to Serbia and are undergoing rigorous trial operations on the country's railway infrastructure. These trials, involving observed drives with passengers, are crucial steps towards ensuring the trains meet operational standards before being officially integrated into regular service by the end of April 2025. Ivan Bulajić, General Director of Srbija Voz, expressed satisfaction with the smooth progress of the contract, highlighting the strengthened partnership with Stadler and the anticipated benefits for passengers.
Stadler, renowned for its FLIRT model sold across 23 countries and totaling approximately 2,640 units, reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the Serbian Railways fleet. The FLIRT trains for Serbia feature lightweight aluminum structures, comply with international safety standards, and boast a maximum speed of 160 km/h. These environmentally-friendly trains prioritize energy efficiency, ease of operation, and passenger accessibility, equipped with amenities such as air-conditioning, CCTV systems, modern toilets, and dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. The unveiling of these trains at Rail Business Days underscores their significance in advancing railway transport in Serbia and beyond.
