Saudi Arabia is embarking on a sweeping transformation of its rail infrastructure under its Vision 2030 strategy, and Siemens Mobility is playing a pivotal role in making that vision a reality. With the Kingdom aiming to expand its railway network by more than 50% and dramatically scale up its transport capacity, Siemens is contributing by supplying cutting-edge automation, digitalisation, and signalling systems. These efforts will help connect key industrial and urban hubs, enabling more efficient connections between cities, economic zones, and logistic centres. By aligning with the Kingdom’s commitment to become a global logistics hub, Siemens’ technology empowers Saudi Arabia to support growth in freight movement, passenger mobility, and sustainable transport.
Central to Siemens’ contribution is its advanced digital rail ecosystem, showcased prominently at Saudi Rail 2025. Here, Siemens presented a suite of technologies—such as its Velaro Novo high-speed train platform, Railigent X for predictive maintenance, and ATO over ETCS (automatic train operation over European Train Control System)—all integrated within its Siemens Xcelerator digital framework. These solutions are designed to dramatically improve both efficiency and safety: Railigent X uses artificial intelligence to predict faults before they occur, reducing downtime and maintenance costs; ATO over ETCS allows for more precise, automated train control; and its modular digital infrastructure fosters flexibility, scalability, and interoperability. By deploying these systems locally, Saudi Arabia stands to significantly reduce lifecycle costs, enhance the performance of its rail network, and increase capacity without compromising reliability.
Beyond technology, Siemens is bolstering its on-the-ground presence to support Saudi Arabia’s long-term ambitions. The company recently opened a dedicated Riyadh office, reinforcing its commitment to local value creation, talent development, and localization of rail expertise. As part of this strategy, Siemens is partnering with the Saudi Railway Polytechnic, implementing dual education programs in signalling, electrification, and communications to train the next generation of railway professionals. These initiatives align tightly with Vision 2030’s goal of building a knowledge-based economy, ensuring that the Kingdom not only imports technology but also cultivates local expertise to sustain and grow its modern rail systems. Through this combination of cutting-edge solutions and human capital investment, Siemens is helping drive a future where Saudi Arabia’s railways are smarter, greener, and more deeply integrated into the nation’s economic transformation.
